Comprehensive Fertility Testing and Semen Analysis for Men
Don't Underestimate the Impact of Male Fertility
Fertility Isn’t Just About One Partner — And Male Factors Are More Common Than Many Expect
Fertility is often thought of as a women’s health issue — but male factors contribute to a significant portion of fertility challenges.
For many couples, this can come as a surprise.

If you’ve been focusing only on timing, tracking, or female testing, you may be missing an important part of the picture.

At My Fertility Labs, we provide male fertility testing and support to help you better understand sperm health, identify potential factors, and move forward with clarity.
Why Male Fertility Testing Matters
40-50%
Male fertility factors are more common than many people realize. Research suggests that male factors contribute to approximately 40–50% of infertility cases, either on their own or alongside female fertility factors.
Because many male fertility conditions do not cause obvious symptoms, testing is often the only way to understand whether sperm health may be affecting conception.
Male Fertility Testing Can Help Identify:
-
Low sperm concentration (sperm count)
-
Reduced sperm motility (movement)
-
Abnormal sperm morphology (shape)
-
Hormonal factors that may affect sperm production
-
Lifestyle or environmental factors that may be contributing

Many men with abnormal semen parameters feel completely healthy and have no warning signs that fertility may be affected.

What Can Affect Sperm Health?
-
Hormone imbalances
-
Varicocele
-
Lifestyle factors (smoking, alcohol, diet, etc.)
-
Medical conditions
-
Medications
What Causes Male Fertility Problems?
Male fertility challenges can result from a variety of factors, including hormonal imbalances, varicocele, genetic conditions, lifestyle factors, certain medications, and underlying medical conditions. In many cases, more than one factor may contribute.
When to Consider Male Fertility Testing
Male fertility testing is often recommended early — but it can be delayed or overlooked.
Fertility evaluation is often recommended after 12 months of trying to conceive without success, or after 6 months if the female partner is age 35 or older.
Testing may also be considered sooner when there is a history of testicular injury, low testosterone, varicocele, prior chemotherapy, or previous fertility concerns.
Other reasons you may wish to consider testing:

-
You’re preparing for or considering IVF or IUI
-
You want a clearer understanding of both partners’ fertility
-
You prefer a proactive, comprehensive approach

Many couples spend months focusing on timing — without realizing that sperm health can also play a key role.

In many cases, both partners benefit from evaluation.
Female hormone patterns can also influence fertility outcomes.
What Male Fertility Testing Looks At
The most common first step is a semen analysis, which evaluates key aspects of sperm health, including:
-
Sperm concentration
-
Motility (movement)
-
Morphology (shape)
-
Volume and overall sample quality
These factors can influence the likelihood of sperm reaching and fertilizing an egg.

Without testing, it’s difficult to know whether everything is functioning as expected — even when there are no obvious symptoms.

Sperm Concentration
Sperm concentration refers to the number of sperm present in a semen sample. Lower concentrations can reduce the likelihood of sperm reaching and fertilizing an egg.
It's important to remember that a semen analysis is not a pass-or-fail test. Results are interpreted alongside medical history, lifestyle factors, and fertility goals.

Research has also shown that some men with normal semen analyses may still experience fertility challenges, while others with abnormal results are able to conceive naturally.
No Symptoms Doesn’t Always Mean Normal Fertility
Even with well-timed intercourse, sperm factors can affect the chances of fertilization.

Many male fertility issues do not cause obvious symptoms.
It's possible to have:

-
Normal energy levels
-
Normal sexual function
-
Normal libido

and still experience sperm-related fertility challenges.
Because fertility concerns are often silent, testing is frequently the only way to understand whether sperm health may be contributing to difficulty conceiving.

What This Can Mean for You
Male fertility testing can help clarify:

-
Whether sperm parameters fall within expected ranges
-
Whether additional evaluation may be helpful
-
Whether timing alone is likely to be effective
-
What next steps may be appropriate for your situation

For many couples, this can be a turning point — shifting from uncertainty to a more complete understanding of their fertility picture.
Can Lifestyle Factors Affect Male Fertility?
Research suggests that several modifiable factors may influence sperm health, including:
Smoking
Chronic heat exposure
Excessive alcohol consumption
Poor diet
Obesity
Certain environmental exposures
*While lifestyle changes do not guarantee improved fertility outcomes, studies have shown that healthier lifestyle habits may positively influence semen quality in some men.

Because sperm production takes approximately 2–3 months, changes in semen parameters may take time to become apparent.
